RollerCoasters & Clichés

There are good moments and bad moments; moments that literally break my heart, and moments that consume me with so much happiness, I cannot even hope to put it into words. This truth lies with every parent, perhaps slightly magnified when your child cannot hear.

Driving in the car, Cal crying in his car seat, and his 2 1/2 year old sister is singing him Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star, because she knows when she is upset, singing helps calm her. Cal continues to cry, because he cannot hear his big sister singing her little heart out. And though she talks and sings to him all the time, Cal has never heard his big sisters voice...heartbreaking.

Cal has the cutest little voice. He coos, he talks, he squeals...and the older he gets, the less he uses it. The doctors warned us of this. At 4 or 5 months old, because Cal cannot hear his own voice, he will not use it. So as we watch our little boy become more and more silent, he does this...complete happiness.

Roller coaster, ups and downs, highs and lows (plug cliché in here). So goes the journey that is parenting.

It's me... again. I've been super into your blogs lately. Anyway, Cal is amazing! What a sweet little laugh.
It is heartbreaking. What you said about Londyn singing to Cal. Things I take for granted EVERY SINGLE DAY. It puts things into perspective.
You have a great little family and Cal is soooo lucky to be the newest part of it. He really is so freaking cute and we can't wait to meet the little man.

Gosh, he's a cute little guy! I just noticed that he was born almost a year to the day after Nolan was (Nolan's got a moderate loss). Hard to believe our guy was that small this time last year!

Those hearing aids are stimulating his auditory nerve in some way. Good luck with the cochlear implant process! I've seen many kids in our local area do wonderfully with them.

Cal is adorable!!!! His laugh is contagious ~ it instantly made me smile!
I just found your blog through Toes' blog. I'm sure Cal is receiving some type of benefit from the hearing aids. My son was also born profoundly deaf ~ we went through the whole hearing aid thing~ they didnt help alot but I know he heard certain things and that made the aggravating, buzzing hearing aids not so annoying.
I love the video ~ your little Cal is a sweetie pie!
